Hurricane Dorian was barely budging in a west- northwest direction late Monday afternoon after hammering the Bahamas with torrential rain and hurricane-force winds on Sunday, leaving at least five people dead in its wake. Even though Dorian is currently forecast to stay off shore as it moves north- ward, forecasters have noted that a small change in its track could move it closer to the U.S. main land. Anticipating heavy rainfall and strong winds from Dorian, the National Hurricane Center has ex tended watches and warn ings along the Florida and Georgia coasts, and states of emergency have been declared in those states as well as in South and North Carolina. Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Management Coordinator Christy Saun ders said in a post on the agency’s Facebook page Monday that the local area may begin to feel Dorian’s impacts Thursday night. Rain will start sometime on Thursday and continue, at times with moderate to heavy effect, through much of Friday, she said. Between 4 inches and 8 inches of rain are possible, she added. Winds from Dorian will generally gust between 35- 45, Saunders said. How ever, if the storm tracks further north and west, the region could see gusts in excess of 60 mph. Gordmans operates similar to TJ Maxx, offering name- brand clothing and home decor at discounted prices. “For the last few years, the off-price sector has seen tremendous growth despite ■ the challenges that have faced traditional retailers,” said Michael Glazer, Stage’s presi dent and CEO, in explaining the shift to analysts recently on a quarterly conference call. The cost of conversion is about $125,000 per store. Stage acquired Gordmans out of bankruptcy proceed ings in April 2017.
